I was e-mailed a link back to this forum. I don't follow this forum, but I notice some new members, so in addition to searching on 'hatch hinges' on the corvette forum, here's the brief history;
First, I am NOT a vette parts vendor. I'm an engineer with prototyping experience so I made a set of hinges for my wife's CE. Others wanted me to do the same for their cars, but it wold be too expensive to custom machine hinges for sale. However, since I did so much design work on the hinge already, I though I could help out the CE community by developing a CNC version of the hinge that would be inexpensive, but there was no enough interest, so the CE guys quickly snapped up the few protototype sets I had made and I had no intention of making any more.
A group from the Corvette Forum (not this CE forum) got together and pre-paid for a batch of 8 custom made sets. Now these were interesting guys with interesting cars, so I agreed to make the simplified CNC design for the $300 price even though several of the guys said they didn't care what the cost was.
So, there are 12 or 15 sets in existance, a first and second prototype and the rest are the very sleek CNC design (links at end of this post). There are no extra sets for sale, and it takes too much time and is too expensive for me to make a single set.
I've answered e-mail inquiries by offering to make another batch if another 8 serious owners got together. I have a few other guys who have been chomping at the bit for hinges for a ong time. I know they are serious, so if all of you CE guys are also serious, then I'll set up and make the hinges. I just moved to Texas, and my machines are not set up.
Don't PM me or expect I will see posts on this forum. Interested parties willing to pre-pay $300 should contact me at
steve@thecubestudio.com If I get enough serious buyers, then I will commit to making a specific number of sets for specific people. Like last time, once I order the material, the offer will close and there will be no 'extra' sets available.
At the beginnignof this thread, there are links to the very first prototype which is still on my wife's car. New sets will be different. Still hand made, but of the CNC design:
