Ok here's a quick question for y'all. I've got an 82 with less than 100 original miles on it. The last time I was able to drive it (a couple of years ago) there were a couple of problems (seems like fuel delivery - stablizer was added back when I got it w/24 miles) but now it sputers when trying to get to highway speeds. Still fires up every time and sounds GREAT in the garage, just smokes a little. Couple of things broke with it sitting in the garage. Came out one day and the power antenna was running that sort of stuff. Now for the question. Should I have it fixed and drive it on maybe the special occasions? Take it out for a hundred mile spin on a nice weekend? 1,000 miles a year or what? Continue to take care of it and let it sit? Waste of car or Investment? Thank for your replys. |

Welcome to the registry Eric, First off at this point, with just 100 miles I would have to say leave it parked. The value of your CE will only go up from here (or down if you drive it). I am assuming it's all original, and looks like new... You should still fix what you can, but drivability issues will always plague it when you let them sit this long. you probably have some crud in the fuel system, change the fuel filter, you could have the hose attached to the fuel pump in the tank gone bad, they disintegrate over time. And there's a really good chance you have vacuum leaks by now with the intake gaskets drying out.... I usually say drive the dang thing, but in your case it is probably going to be better to leave it parked.... If you want some more help getting it running, then you should probably join up at the crossfire forum, there's some really good/smart people there... Link --> http://www.crossfire.homeip.net/ |

Welcome to the Registry, Eric.. I'm with the Dawg.. Usually i tell people to drive the hell out of them, BUT.. To get yours back in shape, you'd have to throw some monies at it, replace all the old, cranky parts. 24 years of sitting doesnt do a car any good. If you leave it with little mileage, maybe it'll be a better investment, but no one has a miracle ball to say for sure. We;ve seen a 9mile CE NOT sell for 24k. Maybe loan it to a Museum for display or take it to NCRS survivors. If you do plan on driving her: Replace all the maintenance parts: Brakes, filters, plugs, belts, tires etc. Take all the fluids out and put new ones in after a flush (where applicable).. Maybe store all the original items safely to have.. But, dont take my opinion, i drive mine.. 104k and not counting.. I'm really on the fence, because these cars are a great joy to drive, but a low mileage, 24 year old CE.. Maybe buy a driver instead and leave this one unmolested.. :wave -Stefan |
