Wish you luck in finding the tool, I looked long and hard till I found one. I was told back a few years ago that even if you had to pay 50 dollars its worth it because they are so hard to find. You'd be surprised many people don't know what they are. Have a good day. If you have anyone you know going to Bloomington Gold, you might ask them to look for one.

Thanks, we'll have to check out some swap meets.

We are in the Pacific Northwest so there aren't too many around.

Is there a place to see a picture of one. The old posts on this forum had posts with pics, but the link must be bad because they didn't display.

I think we could find someone to make one if we had an accurate drawing of one.

Is there another way to get the cap off? We need to get the brakes checked and I'm sure they will want to take off the rear tires.

Thanks, Tammy

I tried to find a pic, no go..

Basically it's a longish S shaped metal, 75% covered in blue plastic. The bare part hooks into the cap and kinda springs it from the rear. I'll take a pic when i get home tonight.

Stay tuned.

Wow, can not believe they want 300 bucks for that tool, guess I was real lucky to find mine. Not sure, as I have not tried it but the tool used to open a gal paint can may work. it has a flat end. What ever you try be very careful. Makes you not want to leave the tool in the glove box.................

Post subject:  cap removal tool...

Hi,

Thanks for posting the ebay ad, wow $299.

It looks like a person could heat a screw driver and bend it into something very similar to the picture.

I would really appreciate it if you could post some approximate dimensions. I just don't want to damage my original caps.

A parts locator quoted me $100, a bargain compared to the eBay item! I don't know if there's was original or the condition.

I keep thinking that it looks like it could be fabricated fairly easily.

Thanks again, Tammy

Not much of a metal worker (more the PC kind  ), but i agree, take a screw driver, heat it up, and bend the flat tip over, ditto for the round part on the bottom. Doesnt look much complex to me.

Ok, i took my $300 item out of the "safe" (ie. the bin under passenger "glove" compartment (where it's been for the last 26 years, held on by the spring that holds the car jack up)) and snapped some pics.. The ruler in the pic is in centimeters (CM), for 1cm = 0.39in...

Flat bent Tip (bout 1cm ie. 0.39in wide):

Overall size (one in the shadow, sorry, 11cm = 4.34in):

Lower round part (3.2cm wide = 1.26in):

Honestly, other then the tip, i dont think the measurements make a difference, unless you go NCRS. Then you're better off with the $300 part anyways..

Hope this helps.

Post subject:  Wow, thanks for the great pictures!

Thank you you Stefan! These are great.

I think I can make one fairly easily now.

I was able to find out who made the original tools, a company called Norris Industries in Virginia. My local dealer had an 800 number and an extension!

When I called it turned out to be a travel agency! The lady said she had had the number for almost eight years and suggested I speak to the dealer again. Since I only asked for the company name and didn't mention cars, I believe she may have fielded several calls in the past!

Thanks again, Tammy

That's a lot too... Nice find though. If only that price was lower the seller would have others bid on it.
