Anyone know the color bronze or brown that is used on the lower rocker panels?

I thought so too, until I took them off and looked a little closer. I believe they are a dark bronze kinda like the wheels and the darkest part of the fader stripes.

Mine are flat black as well. Maybe somebody painted yours. I have been thinking about getting mine powder coated to keet the paint from wearing off the top edge. Has anyone tried this?

BTW Dawg,

Your car looks pretty good for 120K mi. Mine is close behind and hope to have it repainted next spring.

Thanks, mine was repainted almost 3 years ago now, and the faded parts are painted on. The color match on the darker parts of the fades isn't correct, but I wasn't anywhere near the shop when they laid it on, so I didn't have much of a choice.
As you can see in this photo, the color is to light and red, and the fade is way to far forward. if you are going to have your faded parts painted on be sure to get some good pictures of the correct fade, and make sure they get the colors from dark to light correct.

Still looks nice Dawg....Only a trained eye would know the diff. I think I'm going to go with the decal kit. Mine is garaged full time, so I the decals should last (I hope). I too am worried about someone reproducing the fade outs w/ paint.

I would like to know if the transmission fluid pan was factory painted. Was it GM blue like the block?

Thanks,

Hi Ricky, welcome to the CE registry...

I'm sure someone will know, but my best guess is that the tranny pan should have probably been black or dark grey, I don't think it was painted with the motor...

Transmission pan is natural stamped steel, no paint what so ever. Typically a painted one means it was rebuilt.

Thanks, yes it was replaced with a 1988 700R case. This is one down fault that was known when I purchased the CE in 1998.

I don't think there is any external differences between the 82 tranny case and what you have now, only the insides will be different, If you wanted to make it look original, I bet you could strip off the paint (easyoff oven cleaner) will work well for this.
Just be careful with the over cleaner, don't get it on anything you don't want clean, and that means stripping off paint too....

I may strip it for original appearance. The below URL is a nice 700R info site.
