I removed my center caps & in the process noticed the color between the fins was bronze, but the color between the fins on the wheel is black! Is that right? bigdaddy |

Yes,mine are the same and to the best of my knowledge have never been redone. I also checked the one repro center cap from Corvettes of Houston and it matches. Never noticed that until you pointed it out. Jules |

Bronze is the correct color, someone probably sprayed yours with black paint. Also, the correct paint code was posted before but I can't find it right now.. |

The correct color for the Wheels is Dupont B8311J Medium sand gray. |

I show the correct paint code as B8311K. My wheel centers are dark bronze, not black. I'll check into this further! |

I guess, the black 'spray-over' was popular.. Never knew that until you pointed it out just now.. Another thing to fix. |

My wheels are a cross between black and remnants of bronze. I always assumed that the black was a primer because it appears to be under the original deteriorated color. |

there is no peeling of any kind on the wheel or the center cap. looking under a lighted magnifying glass shows that the black must be factory applied since I assume any application after that would have a sharper edge on the color from the tape that would be applied to cover the fin, right? |

This is a picture of the factory color. It is definitely not black, it matches the color on the center cap... |

This is the pic i went looking at after you guys brought this up, at the CAC http://corvetteactioncenter.com/index.php: http://corvetteactioncenter.com/cgi-bin/archives/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=1968_-_1982/1982&image=82d.jpg&img=&tt= I think this still isnt a good shot, but it is not black, like mine are. Question though: A) Why did 'people' paint them black ? and B) How the heck did they do that ? I am imagening a heck of a tape job with all those fins.. Honestly, when i saw the last NCRS car i remember (in Indiana), i didnt pay attention to the wheels, i was too dumbfounded about the color/paint in the rear lights and around the license plate.. Mine is so way off now.. NCRS: Not Correctly Restored Shark |
