Post subject:  Paint code Questions

I am trying to get a hold of some of the brown interior paint that is used on the door opener/handle surround.I have the Dupont code D8262 but when I took this into a local auto body supply store they said that it was the code for an old laquer and they don't have the formula for it anymore. He could try to mix a match but I would have to buy a quart and then a gun to spray it!!! Has anyone found a rattle can color that is a close match to this brown.
I am also looking into getting my exterior paint done and getting the hood decal and pinstripes painted on. Does anyone have a color code that I can use for the brown in the decal and the stipes - I could probably then get the door handle surrounds shot at the same time.
Also where can I get a current paint code for the exterior silver/beige that my paint shop can then use to mix.
As an after thought it might be an idea to add this detail to the Specs page on the homepage of this site (thats where I went first) It gives a code but I have no idea what this code is (ie GM code? ) and if my paint shop can use this to get a formula.
Thanks for your help

I hope I don't get blasted for suggesting this....
When I repainted my CE, I used a silver-beige color that I got
from a 2004 Dodge Dakota number. It is so close to the CE
color that you would have to have 2 cars side by side to see it.

But here are the 2 advantages.
1. It is ever so slightly more goldish than the original CE, and
very much more deep color and attractive, more of a pearl
color.
2. You can now go into any dodge parts store and buy cans of
spray paint(for door jambs, ect) and even small touch up vials
with a built in brush.

This is also a very forgiving color for future blending of any body
damage or scratches, which will save you money on not having
to repaint the whole car or panel. I promise you nobody will know
but you that you used this color except it will make a museum
quality CE look like the paint is faded if it was side by side with
your car.

Steve,
Do you have the color code for the Dodge dakota paint?
The only problem I see with this for me is that I am only planning on painting areas of the car as opposed to the whole thing so I need an exact match. For someone wanting to do a complete respray - I would definately go the same route you did.
As you know I am talking to a couple of shops about getting my hood decal painted on , what paint code did you use for the brown when you did yours

While I am posting I have just read a post on CF about a restoration package that you can order from GM
From what I have been told GM will send basically an assembly blueprint with out all the required parts obviously with GM part numbers. All that is needed is the VIN. The phone number is as follows: 1-800-222-1020 Best part its free.
I have just called them and the lady said that the package includes a full spec sheet for my car including paint codes , engine, brakes etc. An interesting document if nothing else. Should arrive in 3-4 weeks , I will post what it contains when it arrives.
