Subject: Psrt #35564 Struts

I purchased these parts in September of last year.

Others in my club are considering the same purchase, but I have informed them that the struts that were delivered to me did not match the photo in your on-line catalog and also did not fit the car without a lot of modification.

Is this still the case, or are the struts you are selling now match the photo precisely?

Their Answer:

These do not look exactly like the web photo. I will have it re shot.
Here's the deal. There is only one company in the world making these 82 CS struts and these are it. At one time (the same company) they made these that looked like the web photo, then discontinued them. Now they are making them exclusively for us and this is how it's made.
Thanks

Post subject:  FYI

I read a post in another forum where someone claims to have bought struts for an '84 at Pep Boys for $65 and they fit perfect.

Don't know it it's true, but seemed worth passing along.

I purrch'd mine from the Big E.. What in particular didnt work on yours ? The struts you're hearing about from other suppliers are regular struts, they need to be modified too (for the end parts), but are cheaper.. If you could post a pic, that'd be great, as i didnt seem to have a problem when i put mine in, but that might just be me..

The photo in Eckler's catalog shows the struts with a thinner section near the mounting point.

The struts they actually supply are significantly larger diameter and have no narrowed section near the mount.

In orderd to install them, you have to put them in backward because the big body hits the glass if you mount it with the body toward the glass.

Even mountig them backward, you have to open up the interior plastic pieces quite a bit to clear the body and them you have to shave down the plastic end on the rod because it interferes with the latch pin.

Eeeeek..

I must have gotten lucky then, as mine looked exactly as the pic from Eck shows and they installed easy.. If only someone else would supply them.. Sorry about your experience..

Eckler's now has the photo of the actual strut they are selling.

Caveat Emptor . . .

Better than nothing, but be aware that they do not fit without a lot of modification.

I'll try to take photos of mine so people will know what to expect. After I get the new hinges made, I suspect a lot of people might want new struts to go along with them!

I am getting hinges made. Check status in the threads about the hinges.

Not done investigating options yet, and still collecting feedback from the group here, but there WILL be hinges.
