Hi,
Thinking about replacing my hood decal, it has some marks on it that look like water spots. Is this a job that a do-it-yourselfer can do, or is it best left to a pro? Has anybody used the various re-pro decals? Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Tom :?:

I was looking for a new hood decal myself. Mine has cracks all through it, although you can't tell until you get close to the car. Anyone had any luck finding a replacement?

This is going to be about the only place your going to get (reproduction) decals. There are no more original ones left...
http://www.phoenixgraphix.com/gm/1982cvt.htm

It includes instructions, and even a squeege... :D
The only person I know of that has used them so far is Friedel from Germany, and he was pretty happy with them...

If either of you does order this kit, it would be great if you could take some comparison photos of them side by side with whats still on your CE...

Hi,
My hood decal has "water spots" on it. The color is still good and there are no cracks. The rest of my paint is in pretty good shape, so I really notice the spots. I will try to take before & after pictures. I'm going to do the job myself, seems if you are careful and use plenty of the spray solution while applying, it won't be too bad.
Regards,
Tom

I would be very curious as to know how it turns out. Wonder if when you remove the decal if any of the paint will come up with it????

Hi macguyver,
I used a decal remover spray that 3M makes on a car that I previously owned. Worked very well and did not damage the paint. I'm hoping to use the same system on the CE. I'll probably try the spray on a hidden area first, just to make sure.
Wish me luck!
Tom

I'm mostly curious in the color match, try to get some good lighting to take the photos of the comparison...

Oh, by the wy,

i really like them. They are like to appear to be slightly more brownish,
but with a new paintjob, they look great.
The funny thing is, they look only right, when the´re on the new paint.
They match together with the paint, that is shining thru the decals!

Friedel, Do you have any pictures of the big hood decal looking down from above? My hood decal is full of "spider cracks" and I am waffling on ordering the entire set from Phoenix Graphics (~$1500) or painting the decal. I need to paint the entire car and then install all new decals, but am short of cash now, so guess I'll live with the spider cracks for now. Friedel, yours looks very good.

Thanks,

Here is another source for the decals. I have never used them but it seems that they are available.

yeah those decals who would ever thought gm would not make them anymore. I recently seen an original one on ebay for almost 700.00. I need one for myself but wont pay that much. then I think if I were too pay that much and have it put on in time i would be dealing with the same issue. what ever I decide to do I will have a professional do it since it can be a trickey and difficult task. I would only have someone do it that has done a ce before. let us know what you end up doing and the results. april the vettelady.

Mine are painted on, the color match is off, but the quality of the shine is fantastic...
If your going to have this done, be sure they show you the colors BEFORE they spray them on...... :o
