The most reasonable course of action seems to be a non-original, but finished part that has a specific left and right in the $150 range.

For various reasons, I have selected 6061-T6 aluminum. This material is stronger than the orignal and the hinge will also be somewhat beefier. It will fit in the original location, resemble the original hinge and will not stretch.

I will make 4 prototype hinges and install two on my wife's CE for testing. I'll post photos and prices here when the first set if complete.
